A typed letter signed by Israeli Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion. 1p, measuring 4.5" x 6", n.p., n.d. Typed in Hebrew. Signed by Ben-Gurion and addressed to a graduate of the teachers? seminary of the Midreshet Sde Boker (also known as the Midreshet Ben-Gurion). Faint edgewear, else very fine. Boldly signed.
A translation reads:
?Today you join the good group of teachers, our first-year graduates, who have been bearing the burden of teaching and education in our area, in development towns, in immigrant communities and in various IDF units. I congratulate you on your departure and wish you to follow the difficult path of searching for a way and effort, incessant improvement of your ways of working and diligence in your personal integrity. Work tirelessly out of joy and obsession and establish generations of fulfillers, role and deed models, whose fate of the State and its future and its image are creators of cultural values for the people of Israel and the entire world. With a warmhearted blessing??
The Midreshet Sde Boker was founded in 1963, and the school maintained a close relationship with Ben-Gurion and his family. After his death, Ben-Gurion and his wife, Paula, were buried near the school.
David Ben-Gurion (1886-1973) was the national founder of the State of Israel. An early Zionist, he was a key Zionist leader and the executive head of the World Zionist Organization. He assisted in creating the Israeli army, and in 1955 Ben-Gurion became first Minister of Defense and then Prime Minister of Israel.
