Description
Jack Kerouac
New York, NY, ca. 1957
Jack Kerouac's Personal Copy of "Eclipse of God", 1st Harper Torchbook Ed.
Books
"Eclipse of God", by Martin Buber, inscribed to Jack Kerouac from his personal collection. Harper & Brothers Publishers, New York, NY, 1957. First Harper Torchbook Edition. Twelvemo, vii, 152pp, including an Index. Inscribed on the half-title page: "This book belongs to Jack K given to him for fighting for Arabs. JoA." Stamped on the title page with both a Jack Kerouac Estate stamp and the raised blind seal from the Executor of the Estate, John Sampas. John Sampas was Stella Kerouac's brother and the brother-in-law of Jack Kerouac. Purple patterned paper wraps. Light wear to the wraps, along with areas of staining. Staining to internal pages as well. Light toning throughout.
Despite Kerouac's explorations and studies into Buddhism and Eastern spirituality, he was in fact a Catholic. While he did not practice the faith, his Catholic perspective can be viewed within his texts and in his interpretations of mysticism. Nevertheless, he was deeply interested in other religions and seemed to be constantly searching for new perspectives.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
