A signed first, limited edition of T.S. Eliot's "Religious Drama: Medieval and Modern." New York: House of Book, Ltd., 1954. First edition, limited edition, No. 253/300. Published as the twelfth volume in the Crown Octavo series. Twelvemo, unpaginated. Signed "T.S. Eliot" in blue ink on the limitation page. Red cloth binding with gilt titling. Some damage to the front board from a removed sticker. Some scuffing internally. Bold signature is slightly smudged. Overall very good.
Thomas Stearns Eliot (1888-1965) was a poet, literary critic, editor, and playwright, considered to be one of the greatest poets of the 20th century. His "Religious Drama: Medieval and Modern" contains the text of an address that Eliot gave to the Friends of the Rochester Cathedral in 1937, two years after the publication of "Murder in the Cathedral." The address advocated for the increase of religious plays in modern times, using medieval drama as both a model and an inspiration.
