It has one of Whistler's butterfly signatures at lower left. The work shows a coastal view a beached sailboat, and a figure walking toward a horse and wagon in the foreground, and a few smaller boats in the far distance. The reverse has original provenance labels from the Nordess Madison Gallery 831 in NYC. I did some research and found that the collection of documents from this historic gallery is in the Smithsonian and in that collection Box #8, Folder 71 contains what is described as "Whistler Letters of Authenticity".
