A George III Caygill of Askrigg tallcase clock
Late 18th century/early 19th century
Marked to dial: Caygill Askrigg for Christopher Caygill (Askrigg, Yorkshire, England, active late 18th/early 19th century)
The George III two-movement tallcase clock with Arabic and Roman numerals on silvered metal dial and moon phase dial, housed in a bonnet with opposed columns, a broken swan neck pediment mounted with enameled metal portraits of King George III and Queen Charlotte, and three gilt metal finials, set on a conformingly designed case and raised on four bracket feet

Condition
Overall good condition with scattered scuffs, scratches, nicks, shrinkage cracks, indentations, oxidation to metal components, and separation at joints commensurate with age. The bonnet with 6" of loss to veneer strip on left side and pitting to gilt finials, which are slightly leaning in their mounting. Right side of case with 15.75" long crack/split in the wood. Rubbed wear and soiling to dial, particularly to painted moon phase dial. Working condition unknown. Moran's does not guarantee the working condition of clocks and watches.
