Batman Begins is a 2005 film about the DC Comics superhero Batman, created in 1939. It was directed by Christopher Nolan and starred Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Liam Neeson, Katie Holmes, Gary Oldman, Cillian Murphy, Tom Wilkinson, Rutger Hauer, Ken Watanabe, and Morgan Freeman. It captured the origin story of Batman, from the deaths of his non-Batman self, Bruce Wayne's parents, to his transformation into the crime-fighting superhero. It grossed about $372 million, was the ninth highest-grossing film of 2005, and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Cinematography.
