Description
Nine Partners Boarding School - From a Sketch by Alex. H. Coffin 1820
Rare. Nine Partners Boarding School was a Quaker school located in Dutchess County, New York. It was established in 1796 by the Society of Friends (Quakers) as a place to provide education to Quaker children and non-Quakers in the local area. The school's name, "Nine Partners," referred to the nine original Quaker families who were involved in its establishment.
The boarding school aimed to provide a quality education while also adhering to Quaker values and principles. It offered a curriculum that included academic subjects such as reading, writing, math, and science, as well as Quaker principles, moral values, and practical skills.
Nine Partners Boarding School continued to operate for many years and earned a reputation for its high educational standards. However, as public schools were established in the area and the demand for private education declined, the school closed its doors in 1949.
Today, the former site of Nine Partners Boarding School is home to the Harlem Valley Farm and Food Alliance. While the original buildings no longer exist, the legacy of the school lives on through its dedication to education and Quaker values.
