Folds, pinholes, strip cutout. 2) Crescent Silver Company of Cincinnati stock certificate No. 47, issued to Peter Niff Jr.(?) for 25 shares on December 9, 1871 in Cincinnati. Signed by C.G. Pierce (president) and Theo J. Biggs(?) (secretary). Ornate black border, black print on creme. Three vignettes: Two miners working underground in a tunnel (top center), Colorado state seal (bottom center), cut away view of workers underground and on the surface, hauling buckets up by rope (left). Cancelled. Chipped corner, left margin trimmed close at printer (American Bank Note Company, NY and Cincinnati). The company's offices were in Cincinnati and the mines were located in the Argentine District, Clear Creek County. 3) The Crescent Silver Company of Cincinnati stock certificate No. 147, issued to J.W. Stackhole for 300 shares on January 7, 1870. Signed by Charles Mendenhall as president and Thos. Biggs as secretary. Seal, stamp, and punch cancelled. Red border and print, green seal. Vignette of Colorado state seal. 4) The Little Annie Mining Company stock certificate No. 1560, issued to Geo. N Thatcher for 2410 shares on May 9th, 1892. Signed by B. Clark Wheeler (president) and A. Peck (secretary). No printer is listed. Company seal lower left. Properties located in the Roaring Fork Mining District. The Wheeler signature is significant because Wheeler founded and named the town of Aspen. Wheeler arrived in [x=#8220/]Ute City[x=#8221/] in 1880 and purchased several mining claims. He surveyed a new town site and formed a town company. He owned several businesses in Aspen and promoted it heavily. In 1891, the Engineering and Mining Journal notes that [x=#8220/]the experiments in dressing the low-grade ore [x=#8230/] were successful[x=#8221/] and that 5,000 tons of ore on the Little Annie dump should assay at 12-18 ozs. silver per ton."
