Waller's Defeat Mining Company to William Sharon, Signed by President William Sharon. Certificate 533 for 450 shares issued to Sharon. William Sharon was the first President of the mining company. Also signed by secretary (illegible) and president William Sharon. Datelined Virginia October 28, 1868. The goal was to mine for gold and silver in the Gold Hill district and Devil's Gate district. Incorporated on September 10, 1867, and capitalized at $800,000; 8000 shares at $100 per. The Territorial Enterprise reported on February 19, 1868, that the Bank of California (Sharon and Ralston) had applied for a patent for a streak of ground around 1,800 feet in length and 400 feet in width commencing at the old Waller's Defeat Mine and running south. This is located in Devil's Gate mining district. Virginia City Nevada 1867
