Description
Ashanti Bronze Cerimonial Axe - Aboriginal Indigenous Art- Once ritualware from the Ashanti people of Ghana, Africa. This ceremonial axe cast from bronze, features both anthropomorphic and zoomorphic forms. A male figure is seated on the handle, opposite the blade. The tip is a seated rooster. Such axes, while intimidating with the serrated and curved blade, were ritualistic and carried to demonstrate prestige and wealth of the owner. Measures 23.5" x 8" and includes stand. Item comes from the collection of Timothy Koock. Ships from Austin, Tx.
