Description
A graphic contemporary color woodcut on paper titled "Breath" by American artist Richard Bosman. Hand signed in pencil on the bottom right with an annotation of 17/50 on the bottom left. Published in 2001. The artwork depicts the sensuous joys of a summer swim. A young woman is shown as she surfaces for air. We can feel the sunlight glistening on her wet skin as she bursts from the water, flings her head back, eyes closed, and gasps for air. The colors are bright but dominated by water-cool shades and piney greens. The woman is lost in her experience in nature. Bosman became known for the woodcut medium in the 1980s and his artworks are benchmarks of the New Expressionism. Richard Bosman (1944- ) was born in Madras, India. His work is in over 30 public collections in the United States and Europe, among them the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Museum of Modern Art. From a private collection. Dimensions: 30"h x 38.25"w x 1.75"d (framed). In excellent condition.
