Description
Native American, Southwestern United States, Santo Domingo Pueblo, ca. 1970s to 1980s CE. A double strand Jacla with coral beads along the terminal ends, turquoise heishi discs, and at the center are clusters of nacre shell with white and orange hues. This piece was allegedly made by Ray Lovato, an award-winning jeweler, who hand-turns / carves his own heishi beads. While this could be worn as a choker necklace as shown, this is actually a Jacla, which are two loops of heishi beads worn as earrings or fastened to the bottom of a necklace as a pendant ornament. Size of strand flat as necklace: 13" L (33 cm); shell beads: 0.75" L x 0.5" W (1.9 cm x 1.3 cm)
