Description: The Mask of Dr. Fu Manchu #1: Fair (1.0). Cover detached, spine stress, spine ends chipped, 1" transverse tear at mid-spine, 1"x.1/4" abrasion with paper loss to right of "R" in "DR.," top right corner of cover creased and abraded, a few tears, heavy handling wear, ugly soil spot to top right corner of 1st page, a few other internal stains and dogears. Cream to light tan pages. Credits: Cover: Wally Wood. Art: Wally Wood, Joe Orlando, Sid Check, A.C. Hollingsworth. GPAnalysis: No reported sales in this grade. A 2.5 sold for $150 in 12/19.
Famous Gangsters #2 (Public Enemy No. 1: Dillinger, Machine-Gun Killer): Good+ (2.5). Spine stress, 2" spine split, nicks and color rubs to bottom spine, several nicks and shallow chips, corners creased, top staple pulled (no bottom staple or staple holes – bindery error?). Cream pages, light tan edges. Credits: Cover: Wally Wood. Art: Sid Check (Wally Wood inks), Mike Becker, Leonard Starr, Walter T. Johnson. GPAnalysis: Only one reported sale in any grade: A 6.5 sold for $376 in 12/19.Pair of Avons: Wood work a'plenty in this pair of Avon thrillers. An agent of Western powers matches wits with mysterious Fu Manchu and his beautiful daughter, inevitably described as "inscrutible," and barely survives the encounter with his manhood intact. Meanwhile, badman John Dillinger defies society and ends up riddled with lead in a sordid alleyway. It's pretty shopworn stuff, but it's elevated by the efforts of Wally Wood, who gets our vote for greatest comic book artist of all time.______________________________________________________________
