The canvas appears to have been lined.

There is rubbing to the framing edges, with some corresponding paint loss visible to both the left and right framing edges.

Craquelure is visible throughout much of the composition and is most prominent in the sky. Some of this craquelure has started to lift and has resulted in a few tiny chips to the paint.

There is a dirty varnish layer and several scattered spots of surface dirt.

UV light reveals areas of retouching in the sky. Some of which have discoloured slightly and are visible to the naked eye. One patch of retouching in the upper centre of the sky has caused a slight indent in the paint surface.
