Elgin National Watch Co., Elgin, Illinois, an early 20th century "No. 348" pocket watch, 18 size, 21 jewels, stem wind and lever set, adjusted to 5 positions, temperature and isochronism damascened nickel plate movement with lever escapement, cut bimetallic balance with gold screws, gold jewel settings and Moseley micrometric regulator in an 8 and 14 karat gold, engraved hunting case with monogram on front cover, roman numeral O'Hara style multicolor enamel dial with gilt Louis XIV style hands, serial #11612404, 114.6g TW
Condition
CASE: Case has housed another movement; A few small dents; Dent on cuvette made during engraving; Very fine scratches on outer surface of case; Fine scratches and pin pricks on cuvette; Engine turning and engraving with moderate wear; Front cover lift spring weak; Acrylic crystal; Bow with minor wear; Crown shell worn through; Precious metal content marked. DIAL: Hairlines, 5:00; Edge flakes; Partially filled losses at 5 and 9:00. HANDS: Minute replaced. MOVEMENT PLATES: Fine scratches and pin pricks on plate; A few more significant short scratches; Regulator assembly and some screws with specks of oxide; Escape endstone setting with marring. MOVEMENT FUNCTION: Running order (winds, sets and ticks), circa 1905
