Description
(1902 - 2003) German film director, an intimate friend of Hitler who filmed the propaganda classic, 'Triumph of the Will.' Rare fine association war date A.L.S., 1p. 6.75 x 4.25 in. on her personal correspondence card, [n.p.], June 25, 1941 to ALBERT BORMANN (1902-1989), Wehrmacht general and adjutant to Adolf Hitler. Hitler much liked and trusted Bormann, although he and his brother Martin disliked each other intensely. She writes, in full: '...Dear Herr Bormann - I should be grateful if you would kindly pass the enclosed letter [not present] to the Fuhrer. With kind regards, Yours, Leni Riefenstahl'. At top, Borman dockets the letter: 'Handed to the F[uhrer] 25.6.41' and initials his note: 'Br'. File holes at top, receiving stamp, and Riefenstahl's name is partially underlined, else very good. At the time she wrote this letter, Riefenstahl was editing film shot for 'Tiefland'. Extras playing Spanish women and farmers were drawn from Romani detained in a camp at Salzburg-Maxglan who were forced to work with her, and whom ended up being sent to Auschwitz for execution.
