Item Details

Description

(1905 – 1992) English hangman who executed between 435 and 600 people in a 25-year career that ended in 1956. During the Second World War Pierrepoint hanged 15 German spies, as well as US servicemen found guilty by courts martial of committing capital crimes in England. Most notably, he hanged convicted Belsen guards including Irma Griese ('The Bitch of Belsen') and William Joyce (propagandist 'Lord Haw-Haw'). Scarce signature on a 3 x 4 in. sheet. Fine.
