Period photo album, 8 x 9.5 in. with green leather covers and bound together with black string. The album contains a mix of 158 commercial and original photos of the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Content includes: walls covered in NSDAP flags, a lineup of foreign flags, zeppelins, candid shots of Hitler waving to civilians giving him the Nazi salute, Olympic torch relay, the stadium filled to the brim with eager onlookers, wonderful action shots of several athletes, including: runners, swimmers, pole vaulters, a game of basketball, group photos of foreign teams, band performances, air balloons, etc. In fine condition. Accompanied by a 1975 dated provenance letter from the original purchaser, in part: ‘...procured by me from the ‘veteran’ that brought it back to the United States...stationed in Germany from 1946-1948, while he was serving with the U.S. Army. The photo album was given to him by his landlord in the small apartment house in Berlin...as a ‘keepsake’ of Germany, and it has been in his possession until 1973.
