The photographs here, taken on Vivian Maier's 1950 travels abroad to the rural French village from where her family emigrated to America and the surrounding region, are her earliest known work. Already they show her dedication to her craft and her quickly growing confidence behind the camera. According to biographer Pamela Bannos, Maier was so insistent with her camera that some people in her family's French village thought she might be a spy, and she ended up being questioned by the police about her photography. Overall excellent condition. Some sheets with uneven drying areas from ferrotyping process. Some toning to the largest print. Edge chipping, bumps tot he corners and slight curling to a few sheets. Eight sheets with deckled edges. All sheets are loose, not framed.
