Royal Justiciar to Henry III.- Basset (Philip, justiciar and royalist nobleman, d. 1271) Copy of a charter, granted in 1268 by Sir Henry Longchamp, to Philip Basset and Ela his wife the manor of Warneburng [South Warnborough, Hampshire], witnesses: Walter de Irton, Robert Walerand, (administrator at the court of Henry III, d. 1273) and others, manuscript in Latin, on paper, in a secretary hand, one correction in a later hand, inscription on verso of Sir Maurice Abbott, in brown ink, folds, slightly browned, 295 x 193mm., [c. 1625]; and another, an Elizabethan copy of a licence of Alienation granted by Edward II in 1316 to William la Zouch, v.s., v.d. (2).*** First mentioned, Sir Maurice Abbott (1565-1642), merchant and politician.
