The lolling tongue and lumbering gait of Kananginak Pootoogook’s Angujjuaq (Great Big Bear) puts me in mind of an enormous dog exhausted after a long walk. But the watchful eyes on this giant belie this benign appearance, revealing a predator on the hunt for its next meal. [1]
We couldn't agree more! Kananginak's keen eye and ability to reproduce the nature around him, coupled with the sheer scale of this work make for an imposing vision. While the bear is walking away, one can't help but feel that look back is perhaps a threat, despite the bear's exhaustion.
