Footnotes:
The present lot was executed in the period when Quincy Tahoma's style was transitioning from the decorative illustrations seen while a student at the Santa Fe Indian School to more narrative work. For a comprehensive overview of the artist, see Badertscher, Vera Marie and Havens, Charnell, 'Quincy Tahoma of Santa Fe', American Indian Art Magazine, 2006, Volume 31, Number 3, pp.48–57.
Condition
General toning to the paper commensurate with age and display. A handful of spots of foxing to the paper, primarily around the edges. Mat burn along each edge. Hinged to the back mat along the upper edge. A light linear scuff (about 2in long) to the left of the left horse's rear leg. The mat with apparent water damage along the lower 2in and extending further up along the lower corners with additional areas along the extreme edges (does not affect the work). In otherwise good condition overall.
