The portrait of Russian/American artist Leon Gaspard is signed Daniel MacMorris lower left and inscribed Taos, July, 1951.

The work is annotated with Gaspard's birth and death dates verso and 'Painted in Taos N.M. by Daniel MacMorris.'

Leon Gaspard moved to the United States in 1916 and settled in Taos, New Mexico in 1918. His paintings are recognized for their narrative quality and detailed depiction of indigenous cultural life. He continued to paint and exhibit his work until his death in 1964.

Measures 23 x 27 overall frame size, 22 x 18 inch canvas.
