Signed in pencil (ll), with pencil notations "double" (ll), "no bunch at seam" (lr) and "Hedren, #3 int." and "under coat" (ur). The sheet measures 16 7/8 x 14 inches (43 x 35.5 cm). Faint soiling from handling, small tears to top left and top right, faint horizontal crease from folding, faint spotting, light wear to corners, remnants of paste to verso.
A sketch for a black dress worn by Tippi Hedren in promotional material for The Birds. The dress does not appear in the film. This sketch depicts Hedren in a form-fitting, square-neck, knee-length black cocktail dress with an exaggerated cinched waist and white gloves. This is an earlier design of the outfit, as in the promotional materials, Hedren wears white gloves and the dress is floor-length and has wrapped, bunched detailing at the waist–contrary to Head's note on this sketch, no bunch at seam.
