(Disney, 1952-53) An extremely rare Story and Picture Preview book of “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.” This 23-page book was distributed to licensees to design merchandise before the film was completed. It contains a synopsis of the script, schematics of the Nautilus, photographs of props, and illustrations of the main characters and scenes. The book is copyrighted 1954 – the year the film was released - but includes details that were changed by the time the film was completed. The climactic squid battle is described as taking place with two squids, not one giant one, and Nemo’s seal is named “Nosey” rather than “Esmeralda” as she is in the film. This misnomer carried through in the early licensed Jacmar Electric Quiz Game of the film. Measuring 8.5” x 11”, the book is in very good condition, with slight spotting, and wear to the cover, oxidation to the staples, and interior pages clean with some spotting to the corner of the top few pages. This is truly a rare piece of Disney live-action film history.
