Description
A 1932 Olympic identification card belonging to American athlete Annette Rogers (1913-2006. Annette Rogers was a track and field athlete, who at the 1932 Olympics, held in Los Angeles, competed in the individual 100m, placing 5th, for the high jump, placing 6th, to win the gold medal, and set the world record for the 4 x 100-meter relay with teammates Mary Carew, Evelyn Furtsch, and Wilhelmina von Bremen, with a time of 47.0 seconds. The identification card cover has the number in the top right 'No.7118'. Below is the 'Xth Olympiad- Los Angeles- 1932', just below are the Olympic Rings and the 'Identity card'. The card was valid for 120 days of entry into the United States as a visa, however, for Rogers, as an American, it was solely used as an identification card. The cover features the name of the athlete, Birthdate, Rogers is written as 'Oct. 22. with the year crossed out. The place of birth, for Rogers, Boston, Massachusetts is listed. Nationality is also listed, with Rogers written as 'American'. Inside the card is a picture of Rogers in a white hat with her signature, and a stamped 'United States of America' to identify which national Olympic committee she is a part of. The box 'Athlete' is checked with 'Track and Field written next to it. The card is dated 'Aug. 2, 1932' and that the card is recognized by the United States of America. On the back cover is the word 'Visa'. Included is the official program of the 1932 Olympics, the cover is completely separated from the rest of the book, tear on bottom edge, it includes, officials, contestants, descriptions and times that events will take place. Also included are five tryout certificates for the Olympics, a program for the final Olympic tryouts for woman an envelope and three letters from the Amateur Athletic union of the U.S, two stating that the Amateur Athletic Union gives recognition for the record-breaking performances, one asking for an account of her competing to be used in a magazine article a leaflet for a track and field meet held on May 16, 1936 between Northwestern and the University of Chicago, a questionnaire filled out by Rogers at the age of 24, a typed letter about the typical American girl, and two envelopes and one letter from J.A. Garland asking for details of her experiences and has a Swedish flag inside.
