Printmaker Gunnar Norrman is known for serene black-and-white images inspired by the natural world in his native Sweden. Norrman originally studied botany before attending the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm, where he trained in etching. A prolific artist, Norrman has created over 1,000 lithographs, drawings, and drypoint prints. His subtle land- and seascapes, as well as depictions of trees and flowers, capture the quiet, reflective moments in nature, from crisp morning light to the beauty of the first snow. His prints have been compared to those by French Pointillist Georges Seurat and are held in esteemed collections such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the British Museum, and Stockholm’s National museum.
