Pre-Columbian Mayan Copador Polychrome Flask / Bottle (Potion Flask / Poison Bottle), Possible Reproduction | Terracotta flask with everted rim painted in the ceramic style of Classic Cop?n Polychrome using deep red, black, white with red slip. Culture: Pre-Columbian Maya. Decoration: 2 Stylized heads, likely diety / godheads, painted on each side of the flask, one facing left and the other facing right to make them face one another; each side is also decorated with differing glyphs. Period: Late Classic, Ca. A.D. 550-950. Possibly a newer reproduction. Location: Guatemala, Central America. Bottles such as this were mostly found in the lowland regions of Guatemala and are rarely seen outside of private collections and museums today. Provenance: Dennis Smith Collection. Approx. Size: 5" H x 5" Diameter. Condition: Solid and thick traditional bowl; Very good condition. See photographs. Notes: The two figures may be Mayan gods known as god L, the Lord One Death, and god K. Each head has different glyphs in front of it. Flasks such as this may also have contained powdered pigments or other materials such as copal incense.
