About: Introducing an extraordinary custom-framed embossed leather art by the incomparable furniture designer and artisan Angel Pazmino. Cut from a set of sling chairs by Pazmino this truly one of a kind artwork is the epitome of 'custom' and 'hand-made'. The frame has been hand-milled from a solid slab of sustainably sourced American black walnut by our carpenters perfectly offsetting the character-rich patina of the embossed leather within depicting among other Incan symbols Supay - the Incan god of death and guide to the afterlife.
Angel Pazmino is an Ecuadorian furniture maker who has in recent years earned world-wide acclaim for his unlikely merging of pre-Columbian American and Mid-Century Modern design elements into his works. Born in 1926 Pazmino began his woodworking career in 1944 as a cabinet maker. Throughout the 1950's and 60's Pazmino travelled throughout the Americas where he exhibited his work and took inspiration from traditional Ameri-Indian artists and techniques. In the late 1960's he added his second authorial characteristic incorporating graphic elements from the continent's native cultures reviving as he put it the ancient and aristocratic art of leather embossing learning from such artisans as master saddler Ignacito Ortiz.
With it's striking depictions of Incan mythology intricate hand-tooled and embossed saddle-grade leather and a custom hand-made frame cut from solid black walnut this truly one-of-a-kind art piece is sure to make a BOLD impression in any space it inhabits and is absolutely arresting from any angle. Ideal for designers and collectors alike searching for authentic folk-art from the Andes region this visually arresting piece can blend seamlessly against a myriad of design backdrops from Spanish Hacienda to Safari to Boho Chic and is the perfect addition to any collection.
Just as Pazmino merged the design aesthetics of Scandinavian Modern and Spanish Hacienda so too we find this artwork merging the techniques beliefs and aesthetics of both the Spanish and Native American design creating a uniquely original honest outcome blending both the New and Old Worlds as no one else has ever done. Condition Details: This artfully-crafted leather artwork and frame has recently undergone a comprehensive and transformative restoration process. The hand-milled custom frames cut from solid slabs of American black walnut shows no wear and the variegated woodgrains are absolutely stunning in natural light.
The patinaed hand-embossed leather artwork within shows only the wear of a once loved and utilized chair component but shows no stains rips or other damage whatsoever.
This gorgeous and striking artwork piece is structurally sound and ready for centuries of use.
