Item Details
Description
A Fabergé Two-Color Gold and Pearl-Mounted and Guilloché Enameled Gilt Silver Clock Fabergé, Workmaster Mikhail Perkhin, St. Petersburg, 1899-1903 4 inches (10.2 cm) 358 grams (gross) This type of circular table clock was one of Fabergé's standard stock in trade, and popular with clients. These clocks held an infinite variety of compositions within their essentially simple form, and are rendered unique by variations in mountings, with unusual guilloche patterns, and in the use of different enamel colors. In silver, silver gilt, or colored golds, these table clocks were popular in Russia and beyond. The offered lot is an unusual bright translucent citron vert. While this clock was produced before Perkhin's death in 1903, it is interesting to note a pencil sketch for a clock of related design in the recently published album of designs of Perkhin's successor Henrik Wigström, who continued the production of clocks of this type until the Revolution (cf. Tillander-Godenhielm, U. Fabergé: The Twilight Years; Drawings and Objects From the Second Henrik Wigström Album, Unicorn: East Sussex, 2023, plate 257, p. 171.) A related clock in translucent pink was offered, Christie's, London, Russian Art, June 7, 2021, lot 144.
