No. 20 of an edition limited to 24 copies.An extremely scarce work by Jeffers, most copies being held in institutional collections. Broomfield cites but one other copy in private hands aside from his own. The Quercus Press operated by Ted Lilienthal and Lewis Allen, was an important California fine press with a direct lineage to the golden age of fine press printing in England, using William Morris‘ Albion hand press. One wonders if John Steinbeck and Ed Ricketts were aware of this Jeffers poem when composing their “Easter Sermon“ in Sea of Cortez. Broomfield A25.
