[NOTE: The U.S. Presidential Election of 1801 was a landmark contest that resulted in an Electoral College tie between Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr, despite the fact that Burr was running as Jefferson's Vice-Presidential candidate. After 35 ballots in the House of Representatives, James A. Bayard of Delaware is considered instrumental in breaking the deadlock, ultimately leading to Jefferson's election as the 3rd U.S. President.
