Description
DESCRIPTION: Vintage Okimono Japanese Samurai Warrior Sculpture. In mixed metal, with silver finish and embellished with gilt motifs. The warrior is dressed in full Japanese armor, waist with a sword, and is riding a horse. This sculpture is crafted after the original bronze statue of Kusunoki Masashige, a monument outside of the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. Kusunoki Masashige is remembered as the ideal loyal samurai. He was a famous Japanese 14th century samurai who fought for Emperor Go-Daigo in his attempt to wrest rulership of Japan away from the Kamakura shogunate. In Japan he is upheld as an exemplar of the samurai code and deep loyalty to the emperor. This sculpture is hallmarked 'oyo Japan' on the underside.
