Description
A FINE FRENCH SILVER-GILT AND ENAMEL WRITING OR DESK SET, LATE 19TH CENTURY
French control marks, the case formed as a book, the hinged cover with iridescent blue guilloché enamel to either side, the box containing a hinged inkwell and clock, stamp compartment and a blank seal. 12cm by 8.5cm, 16.4 troy ounces gross
The enamel is without losses. Under a loupe, tiny scratches are visible. The hinged cover opens and closes well. The clock winds and runs. The inkwell and the clock both rise well on their hinges. There is some surface wear to the base, understandably. The set is generally in very good condition and of particularly fine quality.
