Description
BONAPARTE, Napoleon (1769-1821). Autograph Note Signed by Napoleon (“NP”) on a Manuscript War Budget Document. [Paris]: 1er Août 1810 eme (August 1, 1810). 3 4to pages on two 4to leaves on “Ministère de la Guerre / Rapport A la Majestié l’Empereur et Roi” stationery (only the first page has this heading). Both leaves watermarked (one with Napoleon in profile, the other with the imperial eagle). The main part of this document, a report on the war budget in Holland, is in a secretarial hand, but is signed at the end by the Duke de Feltre (Henri Jacques Guillaume Clarke, 1765-1818) the Minister of War. Both leaves approximately 12 ½ x 8”. On the left margin of the first page is a 13-line manuscript note in Napoleon’s hand, initialed by him at the end. Both leaves with one vertical and one horizontal crease, some toning, edgewear, some soiling, occasional inkblots, a small manuscript note at the bottom of the first page in an unknown hand, inkstamp of “Charles Fontaine Collection” at upper right corner of the first page.
