A work of spy fiction, "Destination Unknown" by Agatha Christie was first published in the UK by the Collins Crime Club in November 1954 and in the U.S. by Dodd, Mead and Company in 1955 under the title of "So Many Steps to Death." This 1955' Walter Black Edition is an early reprint.
Original dust jacket [edge creases and wear: see photos]; hard boards with brown lettering on spine; 5.1/2" x 7.1/2"; 175 pages, very good condition.
"Lovely red-haired Hilary Craven wanted to die. The sleeping pills were ready on her bedside table, when a knock sounded on the hotel-room door...With that knock, and the entrance of a cheerful, owlish young man, her plans for self-imposed death were dramatically altered. After hearing the strange story of a disappearing scientist, Hilary agreed to take on another woman's identity and a daring secret mission into the African desert, without the slightest chance of coming back alive."
Dame Agatha Mary Clarissa Christie, Lady Mallowan, DBE [1890-1976] was an English writer known for her 66 detective novels and 14 short story collections, particularly those revolving around fictional detectives Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple.
