Lagerfeld, the creative director for Fendi from 1965 to 2019, was a fan of Winehouse's style and music. Winehouse gave a private performance at Fendi's Avenue Montagne store on February 28, 2008, celebrities attending the performance included Rhianna, the Olsen twins, Sophia Coppala, and Jessica Alba. The set list included 14 tracks, "Valerie," "Rehab," and "Back to Black." LVMH was rumored to have paid the artist 1 million pounds, as reported by Elle UK.
Harper's Bazaar UK in 2011 after Winehouse passed resurfaced quotes from the fashion community praising her. Lagerfeld said in 2008 following her private performance, "' She's a style icon,' he said at the time and the following year during Winehouse's performance at Fendi's Avenue Montaigne store he added: She's not only a muse; she's a genius. She's one of the greatest voices today".
Fendi released a statement in 2011 following Winehouse's untimely passing saying, "We met Amy in Paris, fresh from having won five Grammys. That night, everyone discovered that in addition to a genius voice, Amy also had an exceptional and very British sense of humor. Having restyled the Fendi dress she was wearing that night, she said with a wink: 'Forgive my ignorance, I don't know anything about fashion....' We are very sad for the loss of such a unique talent that in many ways transcended music, fashion, and culture."
