Description
A 1914 Star medal to a recipient in the Royal Field Artillery who was killed in action in October 1917 during the 1st Battle of Passchendaele. 1914 Star medal with 5th August - 22nd November clasp, “57783 GNR: F.W. FREED R.F.A.” Frederick William Freed, a resident of Rochester, Kent, served in France from 6th November 1914. He was killed in action aged 27 on 22nd October 1917 serving with ‘C’ Battery 160th Brigade Royal Field Artillery, he now rests in an identified grave in Artillery Wood Cemetery, Belgium. The issue of the clasp to the 1914 Star is confirmed on his medal index card.
