Description
Native American, Southwestern United States, Acoma Pueblo, ca. mid-20th century CE. A piriform pottery vase exhibiting a flared, vermilion-hued neck and a broad, white-ground body adorned with sweeping linear and geometric motifs in black pigment along with several triangular eyes that perhaps represent the mythological serpentine deity known as Avanyu (also Awanyu) - a revered yet feared creature who brought forth lightning, thunder, and storms. Size: 8.24" Diameter x 10" H (20.9 cm x 25.4 cm)
