Together with directions to dry, and conserve them in their natural, translated by John Evelyn, 2 parts in 1, 'third edition' [but the fourth], initial f. blank, engraved frontispiece and 3 (of 4) plates, of which 1 folding, frontispiece very short tear to upper inner corner, just within image, but without loss, folding plate trimmed at outer margin, just within platemark, the odd small marginal hole or tear, spotting and staining, lightly browned, contemporary blind-ruled calf, spine in compartments, top corner of upper cover worn, rubbed and scuffed, [Bitting p.48 (note); Cagle 569; Gabler G13690 (note); Simon BG 621; Henrey 148; Keynes 10; Wing B3602 & R1938], Printed by T. R. & N. T. for B. Tooke, 1675; and The Planters Manual by Charles Cotton, 1715, extracted from his Works (bound), small 8vo & 8vo (2)*** The first work on horticulture by Evelyn, dedicated to his friend Thomas Henshaw, at whose suggestion Evelyn undertook the translation. The second part is The English Vineyard Vindicated, 1675, by John Rose. Provenance: 'Edw. Shackfield his book 1765' (ink inscription to rear endpaper).
