A Holtzapffel & Company Ornamental Turning Lathe No 2435, London 1892, with Full Set of Tools,
Marked Holtzapffel & Co, 64 Charing Cross, 2435 on the ornamental slide rest.
The mahogany bench with flywheel, foot treadle, iron bed with traversing mandrel.
Together with 182 additional tools, accessories and lathe components by various makers, in a fitted mahogany two door hanging cabinet. Please see photos.
Also included are six rose form discs, thirteen rose cutter blades in a fitted mahogany box with key, and numerous hardwood samples and work pieces.
Cabinet dimensions: H: 38 1/4 x W: 36 (closed) x D: 6 1/8 in.
H: 80 1/2 W: 42 1/8 D: 31 in.
Original owner Sir Joseph William Chitty, purchased in 1894;
2nd owner. B. Bagshawe Esq. d. 1908.
3rd owner. J. Pepper Esq.
4th owner Samuel James Jacobs, Silversmith
5th owner son, J R Jacobs.
6th owner Mr. Frederick Hodges, purchased 1955.
7th owner son of Frederick Hodges, taken to USA in 1981.
Sold at the Mammoth Shaw sale in 2005 purchased by John A. Davidson, 8th owner.
