Description
A Lambayeque Bridge Spout Vessel Peru, c. 750-1300 AD Hollow earthenware, a double chambered whistling vessel. One a rectangular box with two plump birds modeled on top, painted in cream and red-brown in stripes and traces of triangles and waves on one side. The wide arching bridge or strap handle with similarly painted, connecting to the long tapering spout that rises from a spondylus shell painted a red-orange. A hollow tube connecting the chambers at the bottom. In good condition, visible repairs to shell and mid-section of spout, repaired break on handle. The whistling device cleverly worked behind the birds.
