Ben Salter (NC, 1899-1983), Goose
Portsmouth Island, North Carolina, circa 1920, carved and painted wood.
Length 21 in.
Salter was born on Portsmouth Island and was the oldest son and second child of John Wallace Salter. He carved many decoys with his brothers Charlie and Tom. They made most of their decoy from logs that washed up on shore and made heads from any available wood.
