Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, circa 1940, carved and painted wood, balsa body.
Length 22 in.
An extremely rare wood goose by Manie Haywood. He is considered to be the finest maker of canvas decoys on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The body of this goose is made from balsa salvaged from liberty ships during the second world war. Manie willed this goose to his best friend, Sunny Briggs of Manteo. Sunny is a famed pioneering North Carolina boat builder.
