Description

Antique c1870 Rose of Sharon Applique Quilt measuring 80 by 90 inches. It is comprised of 12 hand appliquéd Rose of Sharon blocks, 21x21 inches, set straight, 3 by 4, with a 9.5 inch border along 3 sides. It is hand pieced, hand appliquéd, and hand quilted. Fabrics include overdyed green prints, Turkey red solid, and a Quercitron yellow print in the center of the flowers. There is thin cotton batting and an off white cotton reverse. The edge is finished with the back brought to the front and applied by hand, very narrow finished. It is in good condition with minor discolorations and toning, small spots, but all the fabrics are intact and in good condition. This quilt is part of the Estate of widely respected Sharon Stark of Sharon's Antiques Vintage Fabrics and Textiles of Eastern PA. She was an author and long time collector and dealer of antique quilts, fabrics and textiles. Sharon was THE authority on Feedsacks, and you may remember her Rickrack website.
