Description

Antique c1890 Ocean Waves Quilt measuring 86 by 86 inches. It is comprised of 25 Turkey red squares about 5.5 x 5.5 inches, surrounded with scrappy Ocean waves lozenges shapes 5.5 x 11 inches, set straight, 5 by 5. There are Turley red solid setting triangles, and an 11.5 inch solid red outer border. Fabrics include clarets, chrome yellow, indigo, mourning prints, shirtings and more. It is hand pieced and hand quilted. Thin cotton batting and a small brown cotton print reverse. The edge is finished with a red solid cotton applied binding, by hand. It is in good condition with several small spots, and areas of fading in the red solid. This quilt is part of the Estate of widely respected Sharon Stark of Sharon's Antiques Vintage Fabrics and Textiles of Eastern PA. She was an author and long time collector and dealer of antique quilts, fabrics and textiles. Sharon was THE authority on Feedsacks, and you may remember her Rickrack website.
