Description
This antique Rose of Sharon quilt top appears to be from c1880. Is was finished in 1941, hand embroidered in one corner in pink Perl cotton. It is obvious that it was finished later with that bright pink backing and binding! It measures 80 x 81 inches. It is comprised of 16 blocks, 15 x 15 inches, set straight, 4 by 4. There is a 2.25 inch sawtooth inner border with green print fabric, and a 7.5 inch white solid outer border. There is a thin blanket used as batting, and a bright solid pink reverse. The edge is finished with the back brought to the front and applied by hand. It is hand and machine pieced, hand appliquéd, and hand quilted. It is in good condition with a few spots. This quilt is part of the Estate of widely respected Sharon Stark of Sharon's Antiques Vintage Fabrics and Textiles of Eastern PA. She was an author and long time collector and dealer of antique quilts, fabrics and textiles. Sharon was THE authority on Feedsacks, and you may remember her Rickrack website.
