蓋爐取整料白玉雕製，質地細膩溫潤，精光內蘊。整體造型仿古彝器而略有增減變化。 分蓋與爐身，子母口內扣相合。蓋作覆碗貌，平頂，頂圓雕盤龍為鈕，龍首朝正，頭上 雙角，雙眼炯炯有神，鬚髮飛揚，動感十足。爐蓋與爐腹面皆以壓地淺浮雕夔龍紋，線 條勾勒纖秀，古樸莊嚴，顯露神秘韻致，其上各設有八出戟。蓋、爐口緣處各陰刻連回 紋一周。口沿兩側飾獸首銜活環耳。爐身圓口起盤唇，腹下漸斂，下承圈足。底中央鐫 「乾隆年製」雙行四字篆書款。配以碧玉菱花形座，內切三周圓形，刻與爐腹相同夔龍 紋及菱花紋裝飾，工藝繁巧，典雅端莊，兩相搭配，更顯穩重。

焚香於文人乃是雅事，古法焚香，源自宋元文人雅士 聞香與參禪的態度，陳去非《焚香》：「明窗延靜 晝，默坐消塵緣；即將無限意，寓此一炷煙。」可見 文人在「香」的意境中別有一番領悟。而香爐在中國 香文化中占有重要地位，為使用率最高的香具。將香 爐置於大殿，縷縷輕煙籠罩寶座，增添神秘色彩；置 於後宮居室，不僅增添香氣，同時亦為優雅陳設，展 現「舞鸞鏡匣收殘黛，睡鴨香爐換夕熏」別致意境。

清代乾隆皇帝好古，宮廷仿古之風盛行，其中陳設玉 爐往往以先秦青銅器為藍本，追求古器韻味，然又融 入帝王審美，增強裝飾效果，使作品華麗而不失古 雅，形成鮮明的宮廷風格。如本器藍本取自《欽定四 庫全書－西清古鑑、卷十四》．周〈寶彝六〉（圖 一）圖譜，然在造型、紋飾等方面皆加入時下元素與 風格，融合白玉凝光含蓄之特質，盡顯雍容。台北國 立故宮博物院庋藏清〈青玉獸面圓爐〉，與 本品皆是復古風範下的精美之作。本件清乾隆 〈白玉 夔龍紋獸首銜活環耳蓋爐暨碧玉菱花形座〉作為玉雕 陳設，更烘托宮廷中莊重威嚴之勢，盡顯皇家氣派。 拍場相似之例如拍賣於北京保利2015年6月8日，編號 9474，清乾隆〈白玉雕獸面內菊瓣紋龍紐蓋爐〉（圖 三），可資比對，然本品配有碧玉座，無論玉色、玉 材之構思搭配更為別緻，略勝一籌。
