639 清青白玉象首銜活環蓋奩

青白玉質，細膩瑩潤，寶光瑩瑩。器分三部分，最上為覆碗形蓋，蓋頂圓柱形鈕，四周環繞八蓮瓣紋，設四瓣套活環，玲瓏秀美；器中部直頸，外壁雕琢等距六象首銜活環，下承弧形蓋面；最底層為奩身，折沿口雕如意雲紋一周，奩內掏膛勻淨，鼓腹下收，底承圈足，圈足外壁刻連回紋一周。口沿處立體凸雕四等距象首，長鼻彎曲套活環。腹外壁雕變形蕉葉紋，線條婉轉，近底處雕仰蓮瓣紋一周。整體雕工俐落精湛，結合圓雕、鏤雕、減地浮雕等多種技法，華貴而不落俗套，極富裝飾效果，展露清代絕妙的玉雕技藝。

奩為古代婦女盛放香物或梳妝用品之器，傳世有青銅質、釉陶質之作品，而鑲嵌珠貝玉石的奩盒稱寶奩。清乾隆時期經濟與文化發展取得巨大成就，宮廷用玉也發展鼎盛，在此歷史背景下，上乘玉料層出不窮，琢製玉器量多質優，品類豐富。北京故宮博物院庋藏清〈青玉蓮瓣式雙層奩盒〉（圖一），奩身分成三部份之設計與本品相似，然本品飾以象首銜活環，更為精美別緻，可資比對。

象諧音「祥」，在中國傳統文化中為吉祥、喜慶的祥瑞象徵，且象厚重穩行、能馱寶瓶，故有「太平有象」、「喜象升平」之說，陸游曾賦詩曰：「太平有象天人識，南陌東阡搗麥香」。本品以瑞象為裝飾主題，賦予作品美好佳意，為頗具特色之玉雕佳作。
