鼠置物以鐵為材,經過反覆鍛搥、延展,純化雜質才可成形。雕鑿老鼠造型,雙耳 高聳,大眼炯炯有神,身軀飽滿,背部隆起,腿部粗壯肥碩,長尾曳地彎繞至身 側,雙手似緊抓堅果,身旁另有一飽滿堅果。整體雕鑿主題明確,造型簡潔俐落, 逼真傳神。

「打出」又稱鍛金,是用銅、鐵等金屬經千百次搥打而成形,透過搥打將金屬延展 成極薄且厚度勻稱之片狀,再彎曲塑形。而在各類金屬中,鐵的熔點高,延展性又 極低,其難度幾為金工之絕,每次搥打力道需精準拿捏處理,費工耗時,對匠人之 功力考驗難度極大,傳世作品不多。本作出自知名鍛金家山田宗光,其在高熱的加 工條件下,從材料展開到最後收口,運用擋金和鐵鎚不同形狀,相互交替搭配,以 一塊無熔接的鐵片搥出鼠造型,甚為精巧雅致。而根據原共箱之題簽,可知本品後 為山田宗光之子山田宗美所藏。

山田宗光,出生於江戶時代天保二年(1831 年),年少便遠赴江戶於明珍宗妙門下 習藝,擅製盔甲,精鍛金,由於其才華卓越被許以明珍姓,並被認可為明珍加賀 分派,成為明珍世家的一個支流。後由於明治維新面臨廢業危機,轉型製作象嵌 金工。明治十四年(1881 年),於第二回內國勸業博覽會榮獲銀賞;明治二十六年 (1893 年),於美國芝加哥萬國博覽會獲優等賞榮譽。

山田家譜可追溯的第一代為桃山時期慶長年間(1595-1614 年),於大聖寺城主山 口玄藩之下以鍛造刀劍為業的山口家正,此後數代皆效命於大聖寺藩主,至江戶後 期傳到第八代山田永世(1804-1871 年),此時已由原本製作實用武器轉變為裝飾 性強的武具。第九代山田宗光更轉型為金工創作,第十代山田宗美傳承家學淵源, 將金工發揮到極致,並獲帝室技藝員之榮譽。
